About Jake Goertzen

The artist owns a studio in Horndean Manitoba for creating sculptures of steel and other media. Goertzen and his wife, Junita, have renovated a former three-classroom school into a residence and gallery. This gallery is expected to be open for the September 2012 Pembina Valley Studio Tour. The 1000 sq. ft. gallery will house Goertzen’s artistic output of the past 24 years.

Goertzen's early studies were in human figurative realism at private art schools in Los Angeles, California in the late 1980s. These and subsequent subjects show highly evocative sculptures and paintings of nude and draped figurative studies, parents, family groups and children. Most of the human figures were completed between 1988 and 2000.

In recent years much of Goertzen’s art has been larger scale steel, bronze, and cultured marble works. Some works are ornamental iron, and one, like a steel globe has a bronze sculpture at the centre. Many works have been commissioned by
communities and private individuals.
